With no bear canister, once I passed Lance Creek (and especially Jarrard Gap) I was committed to reach Neel Gap, the northern boundary of the canister stretch. Shortly after 6 PM I left the bald summit of Blood Mountain in cold, blustery wind, and reached a dark, cold, and windy Neel Gap at 7:45 PM. It was a long 14.7 mile day!
