Matt, a ranger at the Lodge, offered soft iron wire. I wound enough of it around the bottom section to create this spacer, long enough to set the right pole length. This pole was heavier than the other, but it worked! This disassembled photo shows the pole's break at its lower pin, a weak point with this type of pole.
