The date is uncertain on this; perhaps mid-1959. I don't believe I had upgraded from Novice to Conditional ("dropping the N" was the way we put it), so was still KN3GHH. The Heathkit AT-1 transmitter on the right cost $6 at a Pittsburgh hamfest. The Parker 51 fountain pen, lying on the log, was found on my paper route; I still use one today.
