The Monday afternoon trail was slippery and often steep; many hikers fell but old Werdigo was cautious. Disconcertingly, in several places it followed a narrow ridge with steep dropoffs on both sides, becoming increasingly narrow until a steep rocky descent, like approaching and climbing down the prow of a ship.
